The way in which search engines display results are changing. Typically, you’d type in a search category such as ‘restaurant in Los Angeles’ and the search engine you were using would produce a list of the top websites that incorporated the words ‘restaurant in Los Angeles’ in its content. This is known as ‘organic results’. This was a fairly good system to use but its drawback was that it left itself open to misinterpretations and inaccurate results. For instance, let’s say there is a restaurant in Baltimore called ‘The Los Angeles Bar & Grill’. This website could turn up in your search results. That wasn’t much use to you if you were in Los Angeles and were trying to find somewhere to eat that night.
To combat this problem and make search results more user friendly, the dominate search engines (Google, Yahoo & Bing) incorporated ‘local search’ into their results. What this means is, rather than relying on website content to determine results, they now use local listings information in your area to produce results that are relevant to you and display them on the top page. You can see an example of this in the below screen shot:
At Transmission Management, we are able to optimize your page for these local search results and ensure premier placement (providing your business is within a ‘local’ area of the searcher). This means that your business, regardless of your website, can be listed on the first page of Google, Yahoo & Bing right alongside and even above the larger competition in your area. It can be a real game changer, especially when you consider that 82% of people are now using the internet to search for local business and 90% of them never go past page 1. Another bonus to using this type of technology is that it allows your business to become mobile enabled, since the place pages on the search engines are fully mobile optimized.
